Hiroshima is on the list of must-go places in Japan for a variety of reasons; beaches are not one of them. That being said, Hiroshima prefecture does offer a unique beach experience with beaches scattered throughout the area. This is our list of beaches for anyone from locals looking for a sandy escape from the city grind to tourists trying to take advantage of the warm summer weather.

Camping options are available if you feel that one day is not enough to experience everything that Miyajima has to offer. Finally, Tsutsumigaura is home to the annual Miyajima Sundance Festival, the largest beach party in West Japan.

Kyukamura Beach, located on Rabbit Island (Okonoshima)

Kyukamura beach is a quiet beach located on Rabbit Island. The islands main attractions are the enormous population of wild rabbits (what’s up doc?) and the history of the Japanese poison gas production during World War II. There are hot springs, bike trails and many buildings of historical significance to keep you busy if you need a break from the beach.

Kenmin no Hama (Hiroshima Prefectural Beach)
