Hot springs, their history, and where you can Find them in Hiroshima City
Bathing History
It is said that the oldest Hot spring bath House (Onsen) is Dogo Onsen in Ehime Prefecture dates back over 3,000 years.
Japanese onsens are volcanic, natural spring water sources scattered all around the country. Soaking in mineral-rich, warm thermal baths has been used to heal Japanese bodies and minds for thousands of years.
Before plunging into the bath it may be helpful to understand that there are two types of public baths:
The Sento and the Onsen.
A Sento has its water piped in and heated by on location. In contrast, an Onsen is all-natural! The bathing Etiquette is the same and the experience is similar. Both are an incredibly relaxing way to blow off some steam and relax.
Here are some Onsens and Sentos that we recommend you check out if you are looking to recharge your batteries the old-fashioned way.
A quick google search will give you a huge variety to bathing options. Take a quick google and find a near by hot spring and soak it up!
