Saijo is a small city located out in the Hiroshima Country Side. Known for its Sake Breweries and vast rice fields, Saijo emits a small town vibe while offering all of the amenities one will need. Every year Saijo hosts the famous Sake Festival which attracts brewers and thirsty sake enthusiasts alike to partake in the annual sake fueled fun.

Additionally, Saijo is home to Hiroshima University, resulting in a local student population. For those looking to embrace the inaka lifestyle, Saijo may be the perfect place to set up camp.

Some things in Saijo that we like:

Sake Breweries

There is something in the water out in Saijo that for reasons too complex for me to understand, results in a tasty cup of sake. Located near Saijo Station is a cluster of Breweries, each offering an unique sake experience. The very sake that President Obama sipped on came from the Kumotsuro brewery out in Saijo. Well worth a visit.

Sake Festival

Once a year, people pour out of Saijo Station into the Sake Festival. The popularity of the festival has exploded in the last decade, with an estimated —— people in attendance in 2017. The main attraction is the Sake Hiroba, or as I like to call it, The Thunder Dome! Saijo Central park is caged off and sake brewers from all over the country conglomerate to provide patrons with an all day, all you can drink sake extravaganza! Pro tip: Don’t wear flip flops.
