Soccer or Football?!

These kind of things happen in Japan even for every day words.


Depending on where you are in Japan the words for “because”, “for now”, and the way verbs are said may greatly differ.

Let’s take a look at four words today on how to speak like a local in the Hiroshima Dialect.

Hiroshima Word→  Standard Japanese→ English Meaning→ Example Sentence

1. ええ(ee) → いい(ii)→  Yes, Okay, That’s fine, etc. → ええですよ。Sure, no problem.

2. いけん (iken) → ダメ(dame)→ Bad; no.→ それはいけん。 That’s no good dude.

3. 何しょーん? (nani shiyon)→ 何している?(nanishiteiru)→ What are you doing?→ デビッド、何しょーん? David, what are you doin?

4. ぶち好き (buchisuki)→ とても好き(totemosuki)→ I super love….→ お肉がぶち好きです! I super love meat!
